Ten e-mails waiting to be answered, six messages blinking from the phone, and one very grumpy coworker just waiting for me to make a false step. I lean back in my allegedly comfy black chair and let out a big sigh. The joys of being at the office. Off-white walls and carpeted cubicles keep it from looking exactly like a prison, but still I feel behind bars. I open my inbox and read the first e-mail, sigh some more, and lean back in my chair. The phone rings, leading me to an angry customer, and I race to the bathroom to calm my nerves.

And it is only 8:15 am.

Work can be stressful. How much do we really get done and how much could we do if given optimal circumstances? Interruptions, coworker conflicts, and forced inefficient methods compound productivity levels. Besides, most people have personal worries that prevent them from focusing solely on work like what to make for supper, how to care for aging parents, and whether World of Whatever and other addicting games are harmful to children and teens.

Internal and external factors prevent us from being as productive at work as we would like to be.
